EURECAT

Eurecat is the second Research & Technology Organisation in Spain and one of the largest applied research and technology transfer organisation in Southern

Europe. It brings together the experience of more than 800 professionals who generate an annual turnover of 69 million euros and provides services to more than 2,000 companies. Eurecat integrates advanced digital capabilities and experience in biotechnology, industry and sustainability and collaborates with industry in R+D+I activities and projects, offering advanced scientific and technological services and specialized knowledge to respond effectively to the technological needs of very different business sectors, accelerating innovation, reducing both risks and spendings on scientific and technological infrastructures. The technology center participates in more than 200 large national and international consortium projects of high strategic R&I, has 230 patents and 10 spin-offs. Eurecat has eleven centers in Catalonia and presence in Madrid, Malaga and Chile.

Job description

EURECAT - Technology Centre of Catalonia - requires for its Sustainability Area a researcher profile to be part of the e-Mobility and Energy Storage Systems research group (MOBES).

- Job details

A profile with a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Data Science or related fields, preferably with electrical, electronic and/or automotive (electric mobility) knowledge, is required to be part of the e-Mobility & Energy Storage research group, within the Sustainability Area.

Your main tasks will be the execution of research/industrial projects, report writing and support in the preparation of national and international R+D+I proposals in this sector. Knowledge of battery or electrical system modelling using Phyton, MATLAB or similar programming languages is essential.

- Role and responsibilities

  • Execution of R&D projects.
  • Support in the preparation of new projects and services.
  • Implementation of predictive modelling and statistical analysis for performance optimisation in batteries and electrical systems using physical, equivalent circuit and data-driven modelling (AI/ML) techniques. Modelling tools: Phyton, MATLAB or similar codes.
  • Support in the planning, supervision, execution and evaluation of laboratory experiments.
  • Collaboration with European and national partners in the development of research projects.
  • Identification, communication and resolution of technical challenges in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Writing and contributions to project documentation.
  • Participating in the preparation of scientific publications.
  • Availability to travel occasionally (2-3 trips across Europe per year).

Requirements

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, Data Science or related fields. A PhD in these subjects would be an asset.

You will be successful in this role if you have experience in:

  • Mathematical and statistical modelling applied to products or systems. Strong proficiency in Python, R or MATLAB.
  • Ability to work with large amounts of data, including all stages of model processing, cleaning, training and validation.
  • Data processing (Origin, Matlab, Pandas, SciPy, NumPy, VBA).
  • Data visualisation (Matplotlib, Diadem NI, ggplot, Excel)
  • Familiar with experimental design principles and statistical analysis methods.
  • Technical execution of R&D projects or applied to product.
  • Writing of technical reports (Word).
  • Communication of results (presentation to partners and collaborators) (PowerPoint, OBS).
  • Ability and motivation to learn battery characterisation techniques.

Knowledge of the following areas would be an asset:

  • Fuel cells or post-lithium batteries (H2, Na, solid-state, metal).
  • Post-Lithium battery behaviour and ageing models.
  • Optimisation and prediction models (smart charging strategies in EVSE, prediction of battery anomalies).
  • Electrochemistry, corrosion processes, materials.
  • Code sharing and publication platforms (GitHub).
  • 2D/3D design and simulation (SolidWorks, Catia, Ansys, Blender).
  • Previous experience in the automotive sector.

- Skills:

Autonomy. Responsibility. Ability to work in a result-oriented team. Planning and self-organisation skills. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment. Critical thinking, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
