Eurecatis the main Research & Technology Organisation in Catalonia and the second largest private research organization in southern Europe. It brings together the experience of more than 700 professionals and provides services to more than 2,000 companies. Applied R&D, technological services, highly specialized training, technological consultancy or valorisation and exploitation of industrial property are some of the services that Eurecat offers for both large and small and medium-sized enterprises in all sectors. The technology centre participates in more than 200 large national and international consortium projects of high strategic R&I and has 181 patents and 10 spin-offs. The added value provided by Eurecat accelerates innovation, reduces spending on scientific and technological infrastructures, reduces risks and provides specialized knowledge tailored to each company.
Eurecat's Omic Sciences Departmet is a mixed unit made up of researchers from Rovira i Virgili University and Eurecat. It carries out its activities using the state-of-the-art infrastructures at the Centre for Omic Sciences (COS).
Eurecat's Omic Sciences Unit in collaboration with Universitat Rovira i Virgili, is searching for a doctoral student to carry out his/her thesis in the field of biotechnology and microbiology and work on the research of application of omic technologies for the design of precision fermentations by means of genetic editing of microorganisms based on the CRISPR-Cas9 and CRISPR-Cas12a systems.
The thesis encompasses the application of CRISPR as a cutting-edge technology to edit the genome of microorganisms thus tailoring the production of a targeted metabolite and also the use of omic technologies as a feasible tool to design and validate the process.
Functions and Responsibilities:
The PhD student will design the best CRISPR strategies for different models of microorganism, including bacteria and fungi. Moreover, the student will edit the genomes using molecular biology techniques, and then will check the modifications by next generation sequencing, and additionally will develop metabolomics methods based on fluxomics approaches, untargeted and targeted analysis
What Eurecat can offer you:
The PhD student will be part of the Center for Omic Sciences, a unique centre with all the latest metabolomics, proteomics, transcriptomics and genomics technology. It offers an extensive range of biomarker research services in various areas of health, food and the environment, from project design support to the analysis and integration of the data obtained from various omics technologies.
